Legacy Theatre is always seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our team of Parking Ambassadors! Parking Ambassadors greet patrons as they are arriving at the theatre and assist them in finding parking. This may include directing traffic on the main road in front of the theatre, pointing out the locations of our accessible parking and overflow lots, and answering patron questions. Please note, this role does not require you to actually drive/park any cars yourself! Mentors are paired one-on-one with our campers to ensure their safety and fun the week of camp. Mentors serve as role models for our campers by modeling and actively participating in all camp programming including fishing, kayaking, swimming, arts and crafts, and more. Mentors earn 40 hour of community service for volunteering!

Looking for someone willing to work with the MLKH Foundation to write and/or assist the group with writing and applying for grants.

Teens in grades 7 & up can volunteer in the Youth Services department after attending a Teen Volunteer Orientation. Tasks include shelving books, picking up toys, and wiping down toys and surfaces. After receiving training, teens can volunteer on their own schedule, for up to two hours per week. Local stores such as Branford Stop & Shop, Big Y and Guilford Bishops donate food weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays! These procurements help fuel our kitchen and are a reliable staple for our organization. Volunteers can pick up one of our weekly donations between 9AM-10:30AM and drop off at the CDR before 11AM. Connecticut Hospice Homecare Volunteers have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of patients who have terminal illnesses. The type of homecare visits are as follows:Respite: Sit with patient while caregiver runs errands, has doctor appointments, etc. This will be in a private home.Enrichment: Many patients are very lonely and would like to talk, play cards, have a book or newspaper read to them, etc. They may be in a skilled nursing facility, assisted living or private home. Direct care volunteers should be at least 18 years of age. They are responsible for working at the shelter on a morning or evening shift, each of which lasts approximately 2 hours. The library offers volunteer opportunities in our Circulation department, organizing and shelving Adult Fiction and Nonfiction collections. Volunteers can work days and hours when shelving is most needed and which best fits the volunteer's schedule, usually 2 hours per week.  A familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System, attention to detail and the ability to shelve items on varying shelf heights is required. Love the outdoors? Join our Groundskeeping Crew and help us keep our historic grounds looking beautiful year-round! This person is responsible for designing and creating marketing and publicity materials for promoting events, including but not limited to press releases; in-store flyers, signs and displays; website, social media and print advertising and community outreach to maximize public attendance and financial support. BGC holds two fundraising events per year including the annual Plant Sale in May and Scarecrows on the Green in October. Occasionally there could be a third event, e.g. a Garden Tour, usually in June. Members will help distribute posters and post on social media.

Our Homebound Delivery service brings meals to participants every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 11AM-12PM in Branford and North Branford! Our Tails to Trails program is a dog walking program that offers volunteers the opportunity to bring our shelter dogs to off-site trail locations approved by staff and our dog trainer!In order to become a Tails to Trails volunteer, you must complete our volunteer orientation program in addition to 2 Dog Handling and Safety Classes with our staff dog trainer. You also must be 25 years of age with your own transportation to participate. The BFD is always accepting applications for new volunteer members interested in Fire and EMS Services. You are  welcome to apply if you are a town resident or live in an adjacent town. Adult members must have a CT Drivers License and be over 18. You will need to complete an analog/written application  and then pass a simple background check and physical to be approved. BFD provides free and reimbursed training and turnout gear. Each company has it’s own policy regarding uniform reimbursement. Please email or call for a volunteer application to get started.

We are in need of developing a fund-raising Committee. Some experience would be helpful but enthusiasm & support of our mission is more important to us as well.

Socializers are charged with working with feral cats or those having difficulty adjusting to life at the shelter. It involves working quietly and patiently in prescribed ways with those cats that have been designated as potentially difficult to adopt. This is done only under supervision of and as scheduled by the socializing coordinator. The goal is to acclimate the cat to human contact and build its trust and confidence so that it can be transported and vetted without difficulty and will be able to adjust to a new home environment with relative ease.
